His newest film, A Compassionate Spy, is an exploration of Ted Hall’s story told through archival footage, interviews with both Ted and Joan Hall, and dramatic retelling. James’ previous work includes Hoop Dreams (1994), The Interrupters (2011), and Abacus: Small Enough to Jail (2016).
