Dinner with a Spy | An Evening Celebrating Josephine Baker
with Jonna Mendez at Chez Josephine
This event is at Chez Josephine in New York City, NY
414 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036
Josephine Baker was a star renowned in Europe for her singing and dancing, her beauty and sexuality, and her pet cheetah Chiquita! When the Nazis seized her adopted city, Paris, she was banned from the stage. Yet instead of returning to America, she vowed to stay and to fight the Nazi evil. Overnight, she went from performer to Resistance spy. In honor of her birthday, join us for a tantalizing evening celebrating Josephine with former CIA Chief of Disguise, Jonna Mendez. We’ll toast Josephine’s flair and sheer fabulousness, and also take a deep dive into her achievements as a spy.
And what setting could be better for this intriguing evening than Chez Josephine? The café is a bubbly return to the joie-de-vivre of Paris of the 1930s – le Jazz Hot with soul. A tribute to the legendary entertainer founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker. Josephine called Jean-Claude the thirteenth of her adopted Baker’s dozen of children — the famed Rainbow Tribe — and tapped him to arrange her international comeback tours and sing a song or two between acts. The personal connection between this venerable café and the extraordinary woman who inspired it is magical.
Your ticket includes a three-course dinner with wine in the private dining room at Chez Josephine in the incomparable company of Jonna Mendez.
