“United we Spy.” It’s been our International Spy Museum (SPY) team motto for nearly eight years, since we started a staff-wide conversation about the values that inspire and guide us. The SPY team identified five core values that we continue to live and breathe every day: Diversity, Creativity, Team, Service Excellence, and Fun.
We strive to create a better and safer world for those who work at the Spy Museum and those we serve. We believe our strength lies in our differences rather than our similarities. We nurture and embrace differing perspectives to make better decisions. We believe that together we can do anything.
To cultivate this culture of belonging for everyone, and to lead the ongoing work that doing so requires, SPY created a Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion Council. This SPY team’s mission is to promote a diverse, open, and inclusive environment for all members of our staff and our community. We believe diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion are integral to who we are, and we value the unique contributions, ideas, backgrounds, and cultures that make our SPY team strong.
As a museum, we are storytellers at heart. We have a responsibility to tell diverse stories, to tell challenging ones, and to be inclusive of diverse audiences. In doing so, we want to create a better understanding of today’s complex world for the millions of lives we touch each year. The more inclusive we are, the better our work, and our world, will be.

Join us for a tantalizing conversation about Baker with author Damien Lewis and former CIA Chief of Disguise Jonna Mendez. Lewis has uncovered little known history about the famous singer’s life in his new book Agent Josephine: American Beauty, French Hero, British Spy.
In 1995, Richard Diaz was the victim of a hit and run. He lost his arm and to add insult to injury, Diaz was forcibly retired by the military and told by the FBI that he was no longer a candidate. Diaz joins us fresh from his 2019 CIA retirement to share his inspirational story of “beating the odds.”
To mark the 200th anniversary year of Harriet Tubman’s birth, we’ve asked Dr. Kate Clifford Larson to let us know what we don’t know about the famous Underground Railroad conductor and abolitionist.
