Summary:
The Content Marketing Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving the Museum’s brand messaging. They create compelling content in a variety of forms that captivates the Museum’s target audiences and aligns with established goals and objectives. Reporting to the Marketing Communications Director, they are responsible for implementing a content strategy that drives traffic, engagement, and conversions.

Responsibilities
- Write clear and compelling content to attract and retain new visitors, members, subscribers, and supporters.
- Manage all aspects of the Museum's email communications from content generation, drafting copy, editing, deployment, and analysis.
- Regularly review, report and make recommendations on email strategy and digital content performance.
- Use SEO principles to optimize content and maximize copy’s reach.
- Collaborate with creative team and other departments to create cohesive marketing materials (e.g. email campaigns, web content, print materials, etc.)
- Maintain a content calendar that complements strategic museum-wide communications and marketing efforts, leveraging existing opportunities (upcoming programs, mission-related news, website, social media, press releases etc.)
- Assess and develop an efficient schedule of e-newsletters to encompass the content needs of various departments.
- Maintain overall list health with a focus on growing email subscriber list and deepening engagement with online and in-person museum visitors, program attendees, members and supporters.
- Develop email segmentation strategies using interest groups to maximize and customize engagement, fundraising, and list health.
- Use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of writing, and make adjustments as needed.
- Stay current on industry trends, tools, and technologies.
Minimum Education Required
- BS or BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
- Masters degree (a plus) in Communications, Marketing, or related field
Minimum Experience Required
- 3 years of experience in content marketing or copywriting preferably on behalf of a nonprofit organization
Skills Preferred
- Impeccable writing and editing skills for clarity, grammar, and spelling
- Proven track record of creating quality content that is relevant and engaging for a variety of channels
- Strong ability to communicate effectively utilizing the appropriate voice and tone for different audiences
- Project management experience with excellent attention to detail, editing skills, and adherence to deadlines
- Expertise in email marketing platforms and campaigns. Salesforce/Pardot a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of email construction, including HTML, CSS and dynamic data fields
- Experience with A/B and multivariate testing and enthusiasm for thoughtful experimentation
- Strong knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and Marketing
- Proficient in Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
- Passion for the world of digital media and its application in the museum environment
Special Considerations
- Occasional evening and weekend work required.
- Ability to handle, lift, and move stock weighing up to 40 pounds required.
