DC Public School 5th Grade Free Admission Program

The Museum, in partnership with the District of Columbia government, has initiated a Free Admission program for all DC Public School 5th grade classes. Seaton Elementary School, just north of the Museum in the Shaw neighborhood, was the first school to take advantage of this annual program which extends from January 3rd through March 10th and September 12th through November 10th by reservation. To reserve space for your 5th grade students, contact Chas. Lum at 202.654.0980.

The Museum’s educational exhibits provide an opportunity for exploring social studies, science, math, language arts, and technology. Students learn about the “secret history of history,” the role of espionage in shaping events from biblical times to the present, and can practice their skills of observation, analysis, and code breaking at interactive stations. The Museum’s exhibits demonstrate many of the unique ways students can apply their knowledge of the topics they are studying. Visit the online Press Room for more on the Museum’s Free Admission Program.

How do I obtain Educational Materials?

Educational materials (including Educator Spy Guides, Language of Espionage vocabulary list, bilbiographies and curriculum standards) are available in the Educate section.

How Does the Arrival Process Work?

Prior to arrival please advise your group to leave backpacks and large bags behind in order to expedite our security check and remind them that videography, photography, food, chewing gum and all beverages are prohibited within the exhibition areas. Seating within Spy City Cafe is only available to paying customers.

Upon your group’s arrival, please arrive at the F Street entrance, located at the front of the building. If arriving by bus, please keep your guests on the bus until they are properly greeted by a Museum staff member.

Please arrive in front of the Museum as close to the corner of 8th and F Street as possible. In our effort to avoid accidents please also ensure that the bus exit doors are facing the Museum. Buses must be in compliance with these instructions to ensure the safe and easy entrance of your guests.

After your group has arrived, the Group Leader (only) should then enter the building (via the F Street Entrance) to check in with the lobby staff.

The International Spy Museum does not offer onsite bus parking. Many motorcoaches park at Union Station for the approximate rate of $20.00 per day. Further questions regarding parking should be directed to the General Manager of Marc Parc, Sehaye G. Meskel at 202.898.1950. Motorcoaches should load and unload on F Street. See motorcoach loading and unloading map (in PDF format) and directions.

Refund, Cancellation and Reconciliation Policy

A FINAL COUNT and PAYMENT of the total number of visitors in your group is required 30 days (minimum) prior to your reservation date to reconcile your payment. If the number of paid visitors in your group has decreased, you will be refunded the difference. If the FINAL COUNT is higher than confirmed, payment is required at this time and your reservation will be changed to guarantee admission. Group cancellations made 30 days or more prior to your reservation date will be refunded 100%.

If you do not provide a FINAL COUNT 30 days or more prior to your reservation date, the number of paid visitors reflected by your confirmed reservation automatically becomes your FINAL COUNT. If your group arrives with fewer visitors than your FINAL COUNT, you are not eligible for a refund. If more visitors arrive with your group, and capacity permits, payment for the additional group members is required in full (and the rate may be subject to change) and they will gain admission. Group cancellations made within 30 days of your visit are not eligible for refunds.

Unchaperoned or misbehaved students/youth who cause or risk damage to the Museum or disturb other visitors will be escorted out of the Complex and may not be allowed admission in the future. The offending youth will not be provided a refund.

What if my group is running late?

We will make every attempt to accommodate your arrival change. The first step is to please telephone the Group Sales Coordinator’s Office at 202.654.0958. You may also phone the information desk at 202.654.0965.

How many Chaperones do I need for my student group?

Groups must arrive with no less than a 1:10 ratio of adults to students. Chaperoning at the International Spy Museum is NOT an under cover assignment! All chaperones will be given an identifying STICKER. Chaperones may also receive a card detailing Spy Museum rules and behavioral guidelines.

How close are you to a Metrorail Stop?

One block! The nearest Metro stop is Gallery Place/Chinatown and it is located on the Red, Yellow and Green Lines. Upon arriving at the stop, just follow signs “Exit to Galleries” and take a left after exiting the station. You will run right into us at the corner of F and 9th Streets!

Can we find dining in the area?

Absolutely! The area in which our Museum is located has one of the densest collections of restaurants in the DC area. If you are looking for a quick bite we have a café on the premises, The Spy City Cafe can be reached at 202.654.0995.
